Mark Streit placed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens

Playing just two games before being a healthy scratch for the last two matchups, Mark Streit has been placed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens.

He will be eligible to be claimed by the other 30 teams for the next 24 hours. Should he clear he could be reassigned to the Laval Rocket of the AHL, but a more favourable solution for both parties may be the mutual agreement of a contract termination.

Were he to agree to report to the Rocket, the Habs can bury the remainder of his $700,000 salary as he’s on the first (and only) year of a new contract as a 35+ player. Only the handful of days he was on the NHL roster to start the season will be on the books.

Brought on to help the team on the man advantage, the play of Victor Mete made the Streit decision an easy one for the Habs. Mete has been getting time alongside Shea Weber, and bringing a much-needed skill set to the club so far as a 19-year-old.
