PWHL Montreal captain Marie-Philip Poulin has her second award nomination, this time for the PWHL’s Most Valuable Player.

The nomination comes a week after being named a finalist for the league’s Forward of the Year. She was nominated alongside Toronto’s Natalie Spooner and New York’s Alex Carpenter, the same nominees as for the Forward award.

Poulin was tied for second in the PWHL in scoring with 10 goals and 13 assists in 21 games.

Poulin was second in the league in points-per-game, and was only one of two players to average over one point per game alongside Spooner, who had 27 points (20 goals, seven assists) in 24 games.

The Beauceville, Quebec native led Montreal in scoring and in goals. She also led the PWHL in faceoffs taken (449) and faceoffs won (260). Her 57.9% efficiency was third among centres with at least 160 faceoffs taken. Her 18 points at even strength (nine goals, nine assists) were also second in the PWHL behind only Spooner.

Montreal was 0-3 in the three games Poulin was out of the lineup, and was instrumental in leading the team as captain off the ice as well.

Poulin as MVP and Forward is one of four Montreal season-ending finalists for awards, joining Kori Cheverie (Coach of the Year) and Erin Ambrose (Defender of the Year).
