Tuesday Habs Links: Malhotra signing paying big dividends for Habs

Montreal Canadiens Links

  • The most underrated and not talked about move that GM Marc Bergevin made this offseason is paying the biggest dividends it would seem. For any of you who watched the last two minutes of the Habs and the Colorado Avalanche game on Saturday, then you know the most important man on the ice for the Habs at that time was none other than Manny Malhotra, our new defensive-zone faceoff specialist. [Canadiens]
  • Eric Engels gives us a breakdown of the Habs game versus the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday and shows us why the Canadiens were so dominant against them. [Hockey Buzz]

  • The Habs have a big game coming up tonight against their original six rival, Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings played very well over the weekend, as did the Habs, and look to be getting healthy again as they might add Pavel Datsyuk back into their lineup. CBS has the preview for us right here. • For those of you who want to keep tabs on all of the Habs prospects, we here at EOTP have your covered. Robert Rice gives us all of the stats and analysis for all of the notable Habs prospects in Juniors, NCAA, and in Europe. [EOTP]

Around the League

  • Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was arrested on Monday morning for allegations of domestic violence. The NHL has taken immediate action and suspended Voynov indefinitely. The most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) allows for the NHL to, during a criminal investigation, “. . . suspend the Player pending the League’s formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League.” This is the second October in a row that the NHL has had to deal with an instance of domestic violence, as Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov was charged with felony kidnapping and assault of his girlfriend in October of 2013. [SB Nation]
  • The NHL “3 Stars of the Week” are Tyler Seguin, Frederik Andersen, and Steven Stamkos. Seguin gets the 1st Star honors as he put up an astounding 8 points (4G, 4A) in three games. Ducks‘ goalie Frederick Andersen also impressed and cemented himself further as the Ducks starter over rookie John Gibson. Stamkos led the league with 5 goals on the week and led the Lightning to two out of three victories. [NHL]
  • Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman will miss 4-6 weeks due to a broken bone in his hand suffered against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night while blocking a shot. Hedman has been brilliant thus far for the Lightning and is currently leading all NHL defenseman in points with 7 (3G, 4A). This will come as a big blow for them, but serve as a good test for the newly added depth. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • The Calgary Flames have signed young D-man TJ Brodie to a five-year, $23.25M extension. The 24-year old has gotten off to a great start with the Flames this year with 7 points (3G, 4A) in 7 games. [Matchsticks and Gasoline]
