When the Laval Rocket lost to the team they were chasing for the final playoff spot in the North Division, the Cleveland Monsters, last Friday, things were looking bleak for the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate. However, the Rocket bounced back with a win the next night as the Monsters lost, and Laval went on to win two more games this week to stay in the hunt.

In tonight’s regular-season finale, their picture is quite clear. They aren’t in control of their own fate, but a win gets them to 76 points. The Monsters, who don’t hold the tiebreaker in that battle for fifth in the division, would then need to win every game of a gruelling three-games-in-three-days stretch to end their campaign. With a Laval win tonight, Cleveland dropping even a single point this weekend will be enough for the Rocket to play more games this season.
