Laval Rocket sign G Étienne Marcoux to an AHL contract

The Laval Rocket have added goaltender Étienne Marcoux to the roster for next season. He spent last season with Indy Fuel in the ECHL.

Marcoux had a 22-12-1 record in the ECHL last season with a 2.94 GAA and .918 save percentage for the Fuel. His play earned him a try out with three different AHL teams to serve as a backup, including the Rocket. He did not play in the AHL this season.

Eyes on the Prize’s own Andrew Zadarnowski mentioned Marcoux as a potential signing in his article about ECHL players that should be on the Rocket radar. Marcoux will be 25 in September and is 6’0’’, and weighs in at 168 lbs.

Marcoux also has some familiarity with the new additions to the Canadiens coaching staff. He played his junior hockey with the Montreal Junior and made the move with the team to Blainville-Boisbriand when they became the Armada.

He played under both Dominique Ducharme and Joël Bouchard. His best season came in 2012-13 when he made the second All-Star team and led the QMJHL in both GAA and save percentage.

He went 104-42-14 in five QMJHL seasons.

Marcoux joins Carey Price, Charlie Lindgren, Antti Niemi, Zach Fucale and Michael McNiven as goaltenders within the Canadiens organization. Only Fucale does not have a contract for next season, and it remains possible that the team will choose to not extend him a qualifying offer.

Marcoux was signed to a two-way contract, therefore he can be assigned to the ECHL.
