The Laval Rocket announced the signing of forward Brent Gates to a one-year, two-way AHL contract.

Gates was drafted in the third round of the 2015 Draft by the Anaheim Ducks. He signed an AHL contract with the San Diego Gulls, but his rights with the Ducks expired. He played 20 AHL games in 2019-20 with four goals and one assist. He also played 25 games with the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL, scoring 10 goals and adding 10 assists.
In 2018-19, he he had a goal and an assist in six AHL games after graduating.
Gates is a left-handed shot and plays centre and left wing. The 23-year-old is 6’2”, 198 lbs and played four years at the University of Minnesota. He was the team’s captain in his senior year. He had 42 goals and 43 assists in 148 NCAA games.
He is another depth option for the Rocket and will be able to be assigned to the ECHL.
