Montreal Canadiens prospect Joni Ikonen speaks honestly about his two year absence from the ice hockey rink when he joins ‘The Dispatch’ for an interview.
“I’m not comparing myself that much [to] how I played two years ago. I feel that I am [stronger] and obviously more mature than two years ago.”
Ikonen does not want to draw too many comparisons to the player he was two years ago when the centre produced 10 (5+5) points in 13 games, before getting struck by injuries. After two years off the ice, just to have come back from two devastating knee injuries back-to-back, no one can really question his character.
Ikonen lets us in on his goal with his new team Ilves (from Tampere), his trust in the head coach Jouko Myrrä and the medical team, that held Ikonen out of a game last week in order for him to recover and not over-extend himself.
