Habsent Minded: ‘There were teams asking me to stay for the playoffs in Liiga, but I wanted to go to Laval’

Jesse Ylönen joined Habsent Minded to reflect on his season in Liiga, and the finish that took him to Laval at the end of the season.

There were other Finnish teams that asked for Ylönen to spend the playoffs with them on a loan, but Ylönen wanted to go to Laval and get the North American experience.

With this being the most important summer of Ylönen’s career (so far), Ylönen was on his way back from an individual rollerskating session when we speak to him in his car. Ylönen thinks that his father — former NHLer Juha Ylönen — will benefit his training this summer. Ylönen also likes to play on the smaller rink and doesn’t think there will be much of a transition period in order to acclimatize himself in North America. Otto Leskinen really helped him with the everyday stuff and getting ready off the ice as Ylönen came over to finish the season in Laval.

Ylönen also offers up his own evaluation of Anton Lundell, the HIFK player that Jesse Ylönen played with and against. Ylönen also compared Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Lundell.

Despite what the stat line shows, Jesse Ylönen has made improvements
