Jesperi Kotkaniemi underwent knee surgery for ‘minor’ injury

The Montreal Canadiens announced that forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Thierry Pauyo in Montreal on Tuesday.

’’With regards to Jesperi, it was a chronic, minor injury that did not stop him from playing this past season. Jesperi will remain in Montreal for the coming weeks to complete his rehabilitation program with our team’s medical staff. We have been told by our medical group that there should be no delay in starting his offseason training,” said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin in a press release.

Kotkaniemi missed time late in the season as Claude Julien said he looked to be fatigued. The news that it won’t affect his off-season is good news, and perhaps gives a bit more reason for his time out of the lineup down the stretch with the Canadiens trying to protect the rookie forward from questions about a minor injury.
