Jeff Petry trade talk speculation is heating up

During last night’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the Habs are interested in acquiring the services of Edmonton Oilers defenceman Jeff Petry. He’s not the first to suggest it, but considering he’s one of the only ‘insiders’ that has legitimate sources, it’s probably worth talking about.

Here’s the video. (Go to 2:15 for the Petry talk)

We’ve covered the possibility of a Jeff Petry trade recently, and with the assumption being that Marc Bergevin is attempting to bolster his blue line, Petry seems like an ideal target.

Nick Kypreos mentioned that Zachary Fucale could be in play, although as per usual with rumours concerning Marc Bergevin this is purely speculation.

The Habs GM is keeping an incredibly tight lip when it comes to divulging his deadline plans, as was evidenced by his comment yesterday.

Thankfully, in a little over 24 hours we won’t have to play the guessing game anymore. The best news from the video posted above has to be that the Habs aren’t legitimately interested in Joffrey Lupul. Sometimes the best move is no move at all.
