The good news is that the Habs have only 6 shots in the 2nd period and if recent history is any indication – they will come back and win this one.
I’m not sure where to start, both of the Canadiens line-up injections have been less than helpful. The Sundstrom hit by Douglas Murray was awkward, dangerous, and not necessarily intentional. Regardless of the intent, it was most definitely a hit from behind and now the Habs are without the services of Murray. Murray is not well-suited for the speed of today’s game and could not react in time to avoid hitting Sundstrom from behind. It sucks to see. In all honesty most fans are probably happy with Murray being off the ice, but they would have preferred to have six D available instead of five, which is now the case.
It’s not often that a graduate of the MJAHL wins a fight against George Parros, let alone takes a shift in the NHL (especially one not from the Truro Bearcats), but Brett Gallant did both tonight.
Now it was a stupid fight – like many fights in the NHL these days – and it did very little to shift the momentum in the game. Parros, a player with concussion history, should have known better than to square off with Gallant in a game that means far more to Gallant than it does to Parros (or at the very least Gallant has far more to lose).
While the Habs chose experience over youth tonight, the Islanders were forced to go with youth over experience and it paid off with Ryan Strome striking first on a goal that went in, hit the camera, and went out. It was good and then Brock Nelson scored and the Islanders are up 2-0.
