Byron had been playing with the duo of Nick Suzuki and Jordan Weal in the game, but did not come back to the ice after the second intermission.
He played just 56 games in 2018-19, recovering more quickly than expected from off-season surgery, but then dealing with various ailments through the year. Despite the time missed, he still finished with 15 goals and 30 points, able to contribute to the offence when he was in the lineup.
He is about to begin the first season of a new four-year contract extension, impessing enough since being claimed off waivers to earn some stability with a mid-range deal. Hopefully his health issues can begin to follow a similar path once this latest issue is overcome.
UPDATE:
Claude Julien says Paul Byron will be evaluated for “precautionary reasons” and hopes to have more news by tomorrow.
