How P.K. Subban scored his goals in 2013 – Part 1

February 6th, 2013: It took P.K. Subban all of three games to score his first of the year, opening the scoring in the Canadiens’ first game against the Boston Bruins. As a powerplay is winding down Subban receives a pass from Andrei Markov at the right point. Subban changes his shooting position slightly, then wires a slap shot off of the shaft of Rich Peverley’s stick and over Tuukka Rask’s glove. The pass to Subban didn’t contribute much to the goal, so I’m going to call this one an individual effort on a zone play.

February 7th, 2013: Max Pacioretty sends a pass up to Andrei Markov on the right side point, which he one-touches to Subban, who blasts it past Ryan Miller on the short side. This goal was a team effort on a zone play.

February 12th, 2013: Lars Eller carries the puck over the line and into the Lightning zone, but he nearly loses possession and it’s a bit of a broken play. He recovers along the boards though, and tosses the puck up to Subban at the point. Subban puts a quick snap shot on net that goes through a maze of players and beats Anders Lindback. The screens on Lindback were mostly provided by the Lightning players, and I don’t think Eller’s pass did much to set this up, so once again it’s an individual effort on a zone play.

March 2nd, 2013: After David Desharnais wins the faceoff, Markov gets his second shot through and on net, but Vokoun kicks it out. Pacioretty is on the rebound but he flips it high and gets tied up. Brendan Gallagher is first on the puck behind the net and brings it out the other side, where Subban has snuck down to deposit his pass and tie the game with less than a second remaining. This goal was a team effort on a zone play.

March 5th, 2013: Markov sets Subban up for a one-timer but it’s stopped by Evgeni Nabokov. Michael Ryder collects the rebound and gives it back to Subban, who gives it back to Markov. Markov one-touches it back, and Subban wires it home. This goal was a team effort on a zone play.

March 7th, 2013: Eller draws two Hurricanes players to him down low on the half boards, and quickly stickhandles around home and gives the puck back to Markov. Markov moves it to Subban who one-times it through Justin Peters. This goal was a team effort on a zone play.

Tomorrow we’ll look at the rest of Subban’s goals in 2013.
