How Brendan Gallagher scored his goals in 2013 – Part 1

January 27th, 2013: Brendan Gallagher knocks the puck loose at the Devils‘ blue line, which Alex Galchenyuk pounces on to create a two-on-one break with Gallagher. Galchenyuk feeds Gallagher for a perfect one-timed snap shot past Martin Brodeur. This goal was a team effort off the rush.

January 29th, 2013: Galchenyuk tries to feed Brandon Prust but the pass is blocked. Gallagher picks up the loose puck and drives through the neutral zone and into the Jets‘ zone before releasing a wicked wrist shot that beats Ondrej Pavelec from outside the scoring area. Pavelec gonna Pavelec. This goal was an individual effort off the rush.

February 2nd, 2013: Francis Bouillon clears the defensive zone, which creates a two-on-one break for Gallagher and Galchenyuk. It’s a little bit clumsy as Christian Ehrhoff gets his stick on the puck as Gallagher passes to Galchenyuk, then Galchenyuk reverses it, and Gallagher tries to go back to Galchenyuk but Ehrhoff knocks it into his own net. We’ll call this one a tip I guess, but it was a team effort off the rush.

February 7th, 2013: Gallagher gives Prust the puck in the corner and gets into position in the slot, where Prust finds him seconds later with a pass. Gallagher takes his time and puts a wrist shot past Ryan Miller. This goal was a team effort on a zone play.

February 16th, 2013: Max Pacioretty gains the Flyers‘ zone and finds Gallagher streaking through a gap in Philadelphia’s coverage. Gallagher then puts a little deke on Kimmo Timonen before snapping the puck past Brian Boucher. Pacioretty found Gallagher in a good area, but I’m going to credit Gallagher for getting into open spaces, then beating both Timonen and Boucher, and call this one an individual effort off the rush.

February 27th, 2013: David Desharnais wins the faceoff back to Josh Gorges, who puts a shot on net. Gallagher goes straight to the net as soon as the puck is dropped and gets a tip on Gorges’ shot to beat Ben Scrivens. This goal was a team effort on a zone play.

March 9th, 2013: Gallagher battles along the boards behind the net with Pacioretty and a couple of Lightning players, which eventually (as usual) results in Gallagher coming up with the puck. Even though it looks like Cedrick Desjardins doesn’t give him any room, Gallagher finds a hold and jams the puck home. As established last year, when a player just whacks the puck in we’re going to lump that in with tipped shots. Although Pacioretty helped win the battle, most of the work done here is by Gallagher so I’m going to call it an individual effort on a zone play.

March 9th, 2013: Pacioretty takes the puck around the Senators‘ net and sends the puck up to P.K. Subban at the point. Subban pretends he’s going to pass to Desharnais but backhands the puck back to Paciorettty, who beats Robin Lehner cleanly through the fivehole. However Gallagher is nothing if not a troll, and he gets his stick behind Lehner and tips the puck before it goes in, stealing Max’s goal. What a jerk! This goal was a team effort on a zone play.

Tomorrow we’ll look at Gallagher’s final 9 goals of the season.
