Bulldogs Weekly Report: Andrighetto continues to impress

The Games

Vs the Toronto Marlies: The Bulldogs started their busy weekend with a matchup against their rivals from Toronto in the Marlies. Nathan Beaulieu made his presence felt immediately in his return to Hamilton by opening the scoring mid-way through the first period with assists going to Michael Bournival and Sven Andrighetto. Andrighetto would add a goal himself as he was left all alone in front of the Marlies net and buried the puck into the open net. Eric Tangradi would tally his first goal as a Bulldog with less than a minute to go in the second period with an assist going to Drayson Bowman. Greg McKegg would break Joey MacDonald’s shutout bid in the third period, but Tangradi would seal the game with an empty net goal.

Vs the San Antonio Rampage: In the first of two games against the Rampage the Bulldogs would be handed their first regulation loss of the season. Michael Condon would make his second start of the season and would put on a stellar 38 save performance despite taking the loss. Bournival continued to show he is far too good for the AHL by tallying two assists on Sven Andrighetto and Charles Hudon goals. Despite the strong performance from Bournival and Condon the offensive onslaught from the Rampage would prove to be too much as they posted 34 shots in the first two periods and tallied four goals to knock off Hamilton.

Vs the San Antonio Rampage: In their final game of the weekend Hamilton would once again face off against the Rampage and would struggle against the Panthers affiliate. Joey MacDonald would get the start in this game and stopped 21 shots in the loss while Christian Thomas and captain Gabriel Dumont tallied the Bulldogs goals. Charles Hudon and the red hot Sven Andrighetto tallied assists on the Thomas goal while T.J. Hensick and Drayson Bowman had markers on the Dumont goal. The loss can be chalked up to a poor stretch of play during a 4 on 4 where the Rampage tallied two goals in under two minutes which would prove to be the difference maker.

Hamilton now sits at 2-2-2-0 which places them third in the North Division behind Rochester and Utica and ninth place overall in the Western Conference. The Bulldogs are back in action this upcoming Wednesday when they face off against the Rochester Amerks at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.

Bulldogs Player of the Week: Sven Andrighetto

Andrighetto takes home player of the week honors for an outstanding weekend performance where he tallied two goals and two assists over three games. Andrighetto kicked off his scoring run by assisting on Nathan Beaulieu’s first goal of the season against Toronto before he tallied a goal of his own later on in the same game. In the first matchup against San Antonio Andrighetto would tie the game early in the first period with his patented blistering wrist shot. To finish out the weekend he would also add a marker on Christian Thomas’s second goal of the season against San Antonio to complete a solid four point weekend. Andrighetto currently sits seconds on the Bulldogs in scoring with five points, trailing only Charles Hudon who has seven.
