Hamilton Bulldogs POTW: Robert Mayer

Well, picking a player for the POTW was pretty difficult this time. The Bulldogs had an abysmal week, playing two games against the Eastern Conference best, Syracuse Crunch.

In this two game span the Bulldogs were outscored 7-1. Their only goal scorer was Steven Quailer, who scored his goal on Friday in front of the Bell Centre faithful, his first goal as a pro. Quailer and Antoine Corbin were the only Dogs players to finish the week with a + in the +/- column, each were +1 in the two game stretch.

Both Corbin and Quailer were considered for the POW, but it seemed chintzy to award them for simply being the best of the worst; but someone had to take home the award, and ultimately we settled on Robert Mayer.

Mayer turned aside 57 shots out of the 63 he faced. Though those numbers are far from stellar, Mayer has been one of the few Bulldogs doing his job this week. Going into the season Mayer was expected back up Cedric Desjardins but with Desjardins on the sidelines, Mayer has started 8 out 10 games, and still has a winning record (4-3-0-1).

So there you have it, this weeks Hamilton Bulldogs Player of the (weak) Week. The Bulldogs will look to turn it around Rochester and Toronto (twice) next week.
