Habsent Minded Episode 3.1: Jeff Petry extension the latest encouraging move

As the focus shifts from the 2019-20 season to the 2020-21 season with the NHL Draft and free agent frenzy approaching, we start season three of Habsent Minded.

Marc Bergevin was gracious enough to provide us with plenty to discuss on Friday when he signed Jeff Petry to a four-year contract extension, a season before he was set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Jared Book, Julian McKenzie, and Scott Matla start with discussing Petry’s contract and what it means for the team’s off-season plans.

They then talk about the stakes that face Marc Bergevin this off-season. He already used draft capital and cap space to add Jake Allen and Joel Edmundson and that’s a sign he’ll add the required pieces to ensure the Canadiens make the playoffs in the 2020-21 season.

The trio then talks about the signing of Joseph Blandisi and the importance of AHL success, pointing to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Dallas Stars who are fighting for the Stanley Cup with rosters and staffs littered with players who had Calder Cup experience.

The episode should be available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify if you subscribe to it there.
