Saturday Habs Links: You can’t beat the (Michel Therrien) system

Montreal Canadiens

I suppose the easy narrative is to chalk this up as a story of a guy getting lost before finding his way. That’s just not true, I never, ever lost my ability to play hockey.

The people of Montreal took Campbell’s punishment personally. A French-Canadian in the offices at The Montreal Gazette wept openly. A city bus driver was so distraught by the ruling he missed a flashing railway signal and almost killed his passengers. “No sports decision ever hit the Montreal public with such impact. It seemed to strike at the very heart and soul of the city,” Sidney Katz observed in Maclean’s.

  • Parenteau retains some fond memories of his time in Nassau Coliseum, where his NHL career really took off. [La Presse] (French)
  • Habs prospect Mark MacMillan just underwent surgery for a lower body injury. He will not finish the rest of his college hockey season. [Grand Forks Herald]

  • Not exactly sure what this has to do with Make-a-Wish Canada, but an adult fan will attend 30 NHL games in 30 different cities over 30 consecutive nights. That’s definitely a way to spend $30,000, I guess. [Sportsnet]
  • The Arizona Coyotes lost $16 million dollars under one year of private ownership. [Five for Howling]
  • Joe Thornton, tired of his GM blaming his stripped ‘C’ on Thornton’s propensity to lash out, proceeds to lash out. “Doug needs to shut his mouth.” [Fear the Fin]
  • Eliotte Friedman’s 30 Thoughts – here we go again about video replay review on goaltender interference. [Sportsnet]
  • The success of the L.A. Kings may have sparked an obsession with “heavy” playing, but at a (surely inflated) 5″9 150 lbs, Johhny Gaudreau proves skill is more important than size. [CBS Sports]
