Habs prospect Arvid Henrikson signs with Örebro

2016 seventh-round pick Arvid Henrikson has transferred from AIK’s under-20 team to Örebro’s.

“This will be great,” Henrikson told Eyes On The Prize. “I have been with the team for a week and I have gotten a great impression of both the team and the city.”

“Practice has been tough, and they practice hard. I expect myself to develop really well in these surroundings,” he said.

It is a smart move for the 6’6” defender, who won bronze with AIK in the U20 playoffs earlier this spring. He also played two games in with the senior team in the Allsvenskan (Sweden’s second division). In Örebro, the step up to the senior team wouldn’t be to the Allsvenskan but rather to the top division, the SHL.

It would be a huge step for the defender. Henrikson also got a few games in with the Under-19 Swedish National team at the end of the season, where he notched an assist in four games.

Örebro is a club that is looking to make the SHL playoffs this upcoming season something they didn’t do this past season. Henrikson will also be reunited with Örebros U20 coach Jörgen Hägg as he coached Henrikson at the AIK under-18 team, something that bodes well for the development of the defender.

Henrikson should be looking to play at least a few games in the SHL next season, and that was undoubtedly one of the reasons that he choose Örebro over AIK.
