Montreal Canadiens offensive expectations : Week 10

Thankfully, the Canadiens ended their slump last week in a dominant fashion, controlling the majority of the shots and scoring chances versus the Senators.

The only game of the week that saw the Habs get outshot was versus the Red Wings. Montreal played solid from a defensive perspective, but a few lapses in concentration cost them two games.

Things where headed in the right direction, and it culminated against the Ottawa Senators. It seems exaggerated when looking at the 3-1 scoreline, but the Habs dominated the first two periods, and the scoring chances.

Let’s take a look at the numbers:

The Alexander Semin experiment is now officially over. Marc Bergevin seems to favor the youth, who have earned their share of points again this week.

Charles Hudon played well, collecting two points in two games. There’s plenty of time for him to adapt, but he does need to shoot more, something that Daniel Carr understood.

Carr has more than two shots per games, and collected an assist. Sven Andrighetto continued his hot start, adding another goal to his tally.

That covers the rookies, which mean it’s time to talk about the veterans. After a strong showing last week, Galchenyuk was contained to a meager point, after a short experiment with Max Pacioretty, who scored once he was reunited with Tomas Plekanec.

Speaking of Plekanec, he hasn’t found the back of the net in a month, but still leads the team in points.

Now the Habs will enter the toughest part of their schedule, one that might redefine their contender status. They’ll face the Sharks and the Kings, before starting a stretch of eight consecutive games on the road.
