The Montreal Canadiens have called up Greg Pateryn from the Hamilton Bulldogs after Yannick Weber went down tonight with a lower body injury.

With Raphael Diaz already on the injured reserve with a concussion, the Habs no doubt want an extra defenseman with them on the trip to Florida just in case.
Pateryn has been playing 1st pairing minutes for the Bulldogs of late after an injury to his elbow that required surgery saw him miss 34 games.
The 22 year old American rear guard and University of Michigan graduate has 4 goals and 4 assists in 22 AHL games this year to go along with a -3 rating, 15 PIM, and 40 shots.
Pateryn has drawn praise by the Bulldogs’ coaching staff for his two way play and leadership on a young team.
Like Gabriel Dumont, it’s unlikely that Pateryn actually sees playing time, unless there’s another injury on defense or Tomas Kaberle is really in Michel Therrien’s doghouse.
MONTREAL, QUE – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the Canadiens have recalled defenceman Greg Pateryn from the Bulldogs.
Pateryn, 22, has played 22 games for the Bulldogs this season recording eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) and 15 penalty minutes. The native of Sterling Heights, Michigan played four seasons for the University of Michigan Wolverines of the Central Colligate Hockey Association registering 43 points (6 goals, 37 assists) a +44 rating and 143 penalty minutes in 142 regular season games. In 2009-2010, Pateryn helped lead the Wolverines to a National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. The 6’2″, 219-pound defenceman played for the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets of the United States Hockey League in 2007-2008 notching 27 points (3 goals, 24 assists) and 145 penalty minutes in 60 regular season games. Pateryn was acquired by the Canadiens in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs with a second round pick in 2010 in exchange for Mikhail Grabovski. Pateryn was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the 5th round, 128th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
