Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will be out for four weeks once he undergoes surgery to remove his thyroid, which has an 85% chance of being cancerous. Maatta, who should be fine, was cleared to play until the surgery occurs. [ESPN]
The story of Scott Darling is sure a “feel-good” one. The 25-year old Chicago native, who has been fighting it out in the minor leagues for his entire career, got the call-up from the Blackhawks and won the game for them on Sunday in his NHL debut, allowing just one goal on 33 shots in a 2-1 victory. The San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks engaged in a brawl last night, sparked by John Scott’s instigation by jumping off the bench and going right after a Duck. Scott was suspended for two games on Monday for his actions. [SB Nation]
