Only one player, Lukas Vejdemo, was active in last week’s games, and he scored the first game-winning goal in the SHL eighth-final that Djurgården went on to win. Martin Réway returned to Slovakia after Fribourg-Gottéron was knocked out of the Swiss NLA playoffs.
Joonas Nättinen, JYP
Nättinen was rested by his team before the playoffs. JYP finished fourth and will face the fifth-ranked SaiPa in the Liiga quarter-finals.
Lukas Vejdemo, Djurgården Hockey
Vejdemo stepped up big time for his team in the first wild-card game, which finished on his stick as he got the overtime winner in the fifth period. The next two games were quiet from Vejdemo in terms of points, but he played his role well, and had a few more chances.
You can read more about Vejdemo’s first season as a professional in our recent interview, where he speaks about his playoff experience.
Magnus Nygren, Färjestad BK
No games for the stalwart defender, as playoffs start for the top six teams and the two wild-card winners in Sweden tonight (March 16). Färjestad will play Luleå in a best-of-seven series, that I believe will go down to the wire, with a Luleå win in the end.
Artturi Lehkonen, Frölunda HC
As Frölunda finished second in the season, they get the highest seeded team from the wild-card playoffs. In this case they’ll get Vejdemo’s Djurgården. I predict Frölunda in six games.
Martin Réway, Fribourg-Gottéron
Réway is back in Slovakia to participate in a mini-camp with the national team as preparation for the upcoming World Championship in Russia. In other news, Reway’s near future may reside in Switzerland, or the KHL.
