Canadiens sign goaltender Eric Brassard to an ECHL deal

It seems that the Montreal Canadiens organization is not quite done adding goaltenders to the mix. Yesterday, they snuck in a signing of Eric Brassard from the Halifax Mooseheads. The 20-year-old Longueuil, Quebec native recently finished his final year in the QMJHL, and will join the Brampton Beast.

It is a bit confusing to me considering that his stats in the QMJHL are quite underwhelming. That said, this is an ECHL deal, so naturally the organisation should not be expecting him to be pushing for a roster spot in the NHL in the near future.

It seems to me that the Canadiens are really looking to bolster their goaltending prospect pool, after the signing of Charlie Lindgren and now the addition of another goaltender, albeit much further down on the organizational depth chart.

Obviously Carey Price isn’t going anywhere, but these moves to me suggest that management might be a little concerned about the quality of prospects they possess beyond their superstar keeper.
