Depleted ‘Dogs lose in Abbotsford

The Abbotsford Heat defeated the Bulldogs on Tuesday night in Abbotsford. Mike Matczak scored a goal and added an assist while Tyler Ruegsegger notched the game-winner. The Bulldogs dressed 18 skaters, 7 of which just joined the team in the last week.

The Heat opened the scoring late in the first period on the powerplay. Kris Kolanos picked up the puck behind the net, and fed it in front to Ben Walter who put it by a scrambling Cedrick Desjardins to take a 1-0 lead. The Heat would go into the break leading 1-0 and outshooting the Bulldogs 14-3.

The Bulldogs would respond in the second, when Tyler Murovich backhanded the puck over Danny Taylor’s glove in tight down near the net. It was Murovich’s first goal in his first game for the Bulldogs. The Heat quickly regained the lead just 12 seconds later when Tyler Ruegsegger picked up the puck all alone in the slot and beat Cedrick Desjardins high glove side.

Abbotsford extended their lead to 2 just 5 minutes into the third period, as Mike Matczak walked in from the point and ripped a shot over the shoulder of Cedrick Desjardins. It was Matczak’s second point of the game and was the final nail in the coffin for the Bulldogs who have now lost back to back games.

The Bulldogs are back at it again tonight at 10PM as they take on the Heat once again.
