Daniel Carr scored twice as the Laval Rocket snapped a three-game losing streak in a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Marlies at the Ricoh Coliseum Saturday evening.
Charlie Lindgren had a productive day for Laval making 26 saves on 28 shots in the victory, including 19 through two periods. Conversely, the normally dangerous Rocket offence only had 12 shots through two, but had 10 shots in the final frame.
It wasn’t all great for Laval, however. The Rocket took seven penalties and allowed a power play goal, continuing their run of indiscipline. Laval has been shorthanded on 54 instances this season, but now have the league’s fourth-worst penalty kill at 79.6%. Laval also lost defenceman Tom Parisi to injury after he took a puck to the face.
Laval took a 1-0 lead thanks to some skill from Daniel Carr in the opening period. Kyle Baun picked up his sixth assist of the season on Carr’s fifth goal of the season, a nifty backhanded finish.

Toronto then responded with two unanswered goals, first from Mason Marchment. The forward scored his fourth of the year, and fourth in five games, after taking a pass from Nikita Soshnikov behind the Rocket net.

Speaking of behind the Rocket net, the boards behind it played a huge part on Toronto’s second goal on the power play. Dmytro Timashov’s shot from just outside the Rocket slot ricocheted off the board before finding Chris Mueller’s stick. No Rocket defenceman, natural position or not, picked him up, allowing him to score his first as a Marlie.
There were less goals in the second period, but the Rocket were able to tie the game thanks to left winger Jordan Boucher. The forward scored his first American Hockey League goal after Marlies defenseman Justin Holl lost the puck in the neutral zone, allowing Boucher to put on the jets and wire one past Calvin Pickard.
The Montreal native stood out as one of the Rocket’s better players Saturday, showing off his speed and recording a team-high four shots for Laval.

Laval took the lead for good in the third, thanks to Daniel Carr who scored his second of the game. The forward rang his shot off the post before it beat Calvin Pickard, giving his team the game-winning goal with over 16 minutes left to play. His second of the game is his sixth of the season, and now shares the team lead in goals with teammate Chris Terry.

Laval will play the Marlies in a rematch on Nov. 1 at Place Bell.
