The Canadiens got a good return when they moved Dale Weise at the deadline, receiving a roster player, Phillip Danault, from the Chicago Blackhawks in return for 40 regular season games and a playoff run from the pending UFA forward.
Weise did not achieve as much success as he, and the ‘Hawks, had hoped in his time with the then defending Stanley Cup champions. Now, looking for a new team, it seems that Weise may be coming back to the only team on which he’s ever really thrived.

This raises some concerns about how the talent will cascade down the right side if this is Bergevin’s only move. It would mean that Weise and Andrew Shaw are the candidates to take on the second-line right wing role on the team. This after the Canadiens made offers to Steven Stamkos and Milan Lucic to fill that role, and have more than enough cap space to bring in a top-quality talent to bolster the organization’s weakest position.
Even if Bergevin does make a bigger splash for a right winger, Weise will be occupying a roster spot that could have been used on one of the prospects in the organization. With a Weise signing, seeing the emergence of a young talent like Charles Hudon probably gets pushed back yet another year.
