Monday Habs Links: Beaulieu and Bournival are back up with the big club

Montreal Canadiens Links

  • Dale Weise has been inserted into the lineup for the last couple of games, and he has rewarded his coach with 2 key assists on Saturday night against the Rangers. [Canadiens]
  • The Habs have recalled Michael Bournival and Nathan Beaulieu from the AHL on Sunday. Bournival still has not gotten into a game yet for the Habs this season and Beaulieu has been sitting out in favor of Jared Tinordi since the fourth game of the season. [TSN]
  • Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec had a very rare 2 on 0 while shorthanded on Saturday against the Rangers, and executed it perfectly as Plekanec slammed it home on Henrik Lundqvist. [Montreal Gazette]
  • The Habs are set to embark on a Western Canada journey starting tonight in Edmonton to take on the Oilers. They will also take on the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday and the Calgary Flames on Sunday. With a 7-1 record, which is best in the league, they were all smiles as they left. [La Presse]

Around the League

  • Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar left Sunday night’s game early with a upper-body injury. Let’s hope for the Kings that their star center won’t be out for too long. [Jewels from the Crown]
  • Patrick Kane, who is a mere 25-years old, earned his 500th NHL point last night on an assist to Jonathan Toewes. Kane is well on his way to the 1,000 point barrier and beyond and is still not really even into his prime yet. Expect bigger and better things from him over the next 5+ years. [NHL]
  • Nick Foligno was off to a torrid pace this season alongside Ryan Johansen and Scott Hartnell, but who knows how long he will be sidelined now after a horrific collision with a linesman in which he had to be stretchered off the ice. See the play and analysis here. [Puck Daddy]
  • It has always been the stereotype that all sports players step up their game during a “contract year”, but do the stats really back that conclusion up? [News and Observer]
  • A minor league hockey game in the SPHL turned into something that you would see in a horror film on Saturday night as Justin Csetar of the Huntsville Havoc suffered a deep gash on his hip caused by another player’s skate blade. Csetar skated for about 35-40 seconds after the initial cut but then fell as he bled profusely on the ice. [ESPN]
