For our new readers and members, the Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and entertaining. Full recaps are up the morning after every game.
Pre-game
- Thursday night I begged for a win. I didn’t get one. I’m changing my tactic to tough love.
- This is gross! Smarten up. You’re better than this. It’s time for a win.
- Let’s see if that works./
First period
- Nice early hit from Anderson. Keep it up. Show ‘em who’s boss. Feel free to just go crazy and throw a goal or two in there before the night is over.
- Hey, Niku! Welcome back to the blue line. Help us.
- Chiarot draws the short straw and is the first to head to the box for tripping.
- Larken immediately capitalizes on the man advantage. Like, immediately.
- Detroit was 0-7 on the power play before that goal. Don’t say we never did anything for you.
- Post! Not Greiss’s post, though.
- Oh yay. It’s our turn for the power play. Just let me go top up my drink.
- Chiarot makes up for his penalty boo-boo and ties it up!!
- Followed up by Hoffman’s first goal as a Hab! On. The. Power. Play./
Second period
- Hoffman gets loose and heads for Greiss. Takes the shot. Saved. Gally jumps for the rebound but the puck jumps over his stick.
- Good start to the period if nothing else.
- Dvorak makes it 3-1! That’s three goals in one game. Three!!
- Niku picks up his second apple of the night. Thank you for answering my plea for help, Sami.
- Perreault makes it 4-1! And we’re not even halfway through the second. I haven’t felt this excited since the playoffs.
- FIVE!! Perreault follows up his first goal as a Hab with his second goal as a Hab!
- Greiss takes a seat and in comes Nedeljkovic. Not only are we scoring goals, we’re chasing goaltenders from the net. When the Habs wake up, they really wake up.
- Perreault goes for a third and almost grabs a hat trick while he’s at it. Don’t worry, Mathieu, we have a whole other period, there’s still time. /
Third period
- Off to the power play we go as Smith heads to the sin bin for unsportsmanlike conduct.
- Uh, good call:/

- Fans are doing a wave + ole combo! That’s pretty awesome.
- Chiarot and Anderson, two on one, Anderson shoots… and misses. Oh, Josh. You are so due my boyfriend friend.
- Detroit pulls the goalie with seven minutes left and a 5-1 score. Interesting move.
- And Perreault gets his hatty with an empty-netter!!
- So, looks like my tough love worked. You’re welcome. /
