Starting the season 0-5 was certainly not ideal for the Montreal Canadiens coming off their magical run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Looking to get back on track, they took once more to home ice to face the Detroit Red Wings, a team that gave them absolute fits the last time cross-border play was permitted during the regular season.

Mathieu Perreault tallied a natural hat trick on the night. He was without a doubt the player of the night for Montreal, and provided a much needed feel-good moment for the Bell Centre faithful. We can only hope to see more of that from him as the Canadiens could sure use it.
The Habs also saw impressive performances from Jonathan Drouin, Cole Caufield, Mike Hoffman, and Sami Niku. The latter really stood out on a blue line that has been rather problematic in this young season, and just may have staked his claim to a permanent spot with how good he was against Detroit.
