A win over the New York Islanders ensured the Canadiens’ claim of never losing back-to-back games this season still rings true. After falling behind in the first, it was another win of the comeback variety for a team full of confidence.

One reason why that fact can be brought up so often is that the Canadiens haven’t been able to string many wins together, either. Outside of a three-game winning streak, the Habs haven’t won consecutive game either, and have been alternating wins and losses since mid-October.

Facing the New York Rangers offers an opportunity to break that pattern. After years of trading prospects in hopes of playoff success, the Rangers found themselves with few NHL-ready reinforcements, and have been slowly converting players into prospects in recent years.

The 2018-19 season finds them in a fairly non-competitive state, last in the Metropolitan Division, though still not out of playoff contention. The Rangers are by no means a team to take lightly, but the Canadiens have the better team at the moment, and should be favoured to earn another road victory tonight.
