Canadiens vs. Kings: Game thread, rosters, lines, and how to watch

Montreal Canadiens vs. Los Angeles Kings

How to watch

Puck drop: 7:30 PM EDT / 4:30 PM PDT
In the Canadiens region: TSN2, TSN Direct (English), RDS, RDS Direct (French)
In the Kings region: Fox Sports West
Elsewhere: NHL.tv/Rogers NHL Live

While the rest of the NHL has been putting on a tribute to 1980s offensive hockey, the Canadiens have been tweaking their new-look forechecking game at practice. It will be a confident group that takes the ice tonight, coming off a 5-1 victory (if they can remember back that far), and their solid outing versus the Toronto Maple Leafs to open the season looking even better in hindsight.

Tonight will have a 1990s theme, with the Habs honouring the players from the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup. Having won two Cups this decade, the Kings shouldn’t feel overly upset about having to watch a celebration of the team that defeated them 25 years ago.

The Canadiens will also get a chance to introduce their new captain, even if fans won’t get to see Shea Weber sporting the C in a game situation. Alternates Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher will continue to lead by example for the time being, and hope to run a season-opening points streak to three games.
