It was one of the best opening periods of the year for Montreal. Lars Eller profited from great work by Galchenyuk down low and a blown coverage by Eric Staal to open up the scoring.
The recently anemic powerplay came to life thanks to a great pass by Markov, which was then perfectly one-touched by David Desharnais to Max Pacioretty, who was waiting patiently in the slot.
