After a disappointing showing versus the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, the Canadiens now begin their effort to salvage the remainder of their road trip. That starts with a game versus one of the top seeds from the Pacific Division this season: the Calgary Flames.

Though they do have some of the game’s best offensive talents, the Flames are a middle-of-the-pack offensive team to begin the year. Because of some difficult performances from Mike Smith in goal, they’ve given up about as many as they’ve scored, seeing the number of goals opponents score per game steadily increase over the last few years.

Many of the goals they have been able to find have come in third-period comeback bids. They lead the league in goals scored during the final 20 minutes, with 29, and allow the fourth-fewest. They could be in dire straits without that resilience in their game in the early going, but for now the team’s forwards are bursting with confidence.

Montreal will need to be cognizant of that tendency from tonight’s opponent, and it should be a good test of their own character to keep the pressure up for a full 60 minutes for the first time in several games.
