For our new readers and members, the Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and entertaining. Full recaps are up the morning after every game.
Pre-game
- It finally happened. Someone wearing #76 in a Canadiens jersey brought a championship back to Montreal.
- With Shea Weber out, the Canadiens could sure use an imposing figure on defence. Wonder if they can trade this #76 for him in the lineup.
- I don’t actually want to troll the trade or the players involved. I just do it for easy jokes./
First Period
- JAKE EVANS! He is the third player to score his first NHL goal when I do the TSM.
- It took him fewer games to score his first NHL goal of the season than it did his first AHL goal of the season.
- Brendan Gallagher doing Brendan Gallagher things and the Canadiens have a 2-0 lead before I even started my dinner.
- It’s clear that the puck is very Anti-Hitting Raanta so far.
- Carey Price probably definitely wants that one back.
- This game has as many goals in five and a half minutes than 65 on Saturday. And almost had another one.
- A ping-pong puck, a flying stick, dueling scoring chances on that sequence. Action-filled start!
- Ilya Kovalchuk standing up to defend linemate Nick Suzuki. Try understanding this sentence in September.
- FIVE FORWARDS. I like the idea on a five-on-three, even if the result wasn’t there./
Second Period
- Nothing fixes a broken power play like a long five-on-three.
- Or not.
- Hopefully Phillip Danault is OK.
- You know, they didn’t score, but it really wasn’t that bad.
- Carey Price has bounced back after the goal he gave up.
- OK, that power play was bad.
- Hey former Canadien and Coyote Alex Galchenyuk was traded. While the Canadiens and Coyotes are playing. Wild.
- Jake Evans has looked very good since he was called up. I would say that I doubt he goes back to Laval, but I also said that about Lukas Vejdemo.
- That was not textbook defending. And it’s tied 2-2./
Third Period
- That sequence between Nate Thompson and Jonathan Drouin was something.
- The Coyotes defence is really good at forcing the play in their own zone. They often leave the Canadiens with one option that is not ideal.
- Not really sure what penalty they called on Brett Kulak.
- Brendan Gallagher comes close, but it’s still tied.
- For the second straight game, the Canadiens have bounced back from an iffy second period with a very strong third without their top centre.
- Montreal took one too many penalties. They had power play chances of their own, but that’s what happens in one-goal games./
