For the second time this season, the Montreal Canadiens will host the Washington Capitals at the Bell Centre. They will be hoping for the same result they enjoyed the first time, though Claude Julien probably wouldn’t mind a tighter defensive effort from his team.
On November 1, Washington had two-goal performances from Alex Ovechkin and Lars Eller. With a few forwards out of the lineup tonight, most notably Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie, those two will be united on the top line, with a recently reinstated Tom Wilson on the opposite flank making up the Capitals’ most dangerous trio.
The Caps also have an injury affecting the goaltending position. Regular starter Braden Holtby is out with an upper-body injury, and that means Pheonix Copley makes his fourth consecutive start. He has delivered in those games, giving up just two goals in each, while his defenders have done a good job of limiting the number of shots their backup faces.
Carey Price gets the call for Montreal once again, now with back-to-back solid outings under his belt to boost his confidence as he returns to home ice.
Up front, Max Domi has been red-hot for the Canadiens, riding a nine-game points streak that began the last time these two teams met. The Capitals will need to pay just as much attention to him as Montreall will focus on Ovechkin to grab a win tonight.
