Not only did the Canadiens make it two wins in a row when they faced the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night, Carey Price made 30 saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season, and Max Domi finally found the back of the net — twice.
As expected, Brady Tkachuk was a real pain in the butt, fighting Brendan Gallagher after he made a clean hit on Thomas Chabot (granted, his leg twisted during the hit and he had a hard time getting up off the ice) and pissing Price off so much that he got a minor penalty for getting in on some shoving action himself. Tkachuk ended up taking a misconduct toward the end of the game and Domi clapped as Tkachuk skated off the ice for the night. Try as he might, he didn’t throw Montreal off their game, and they came out on the winning side with a season sweep to boot.
It was a total team effort on Saturday. As Price put it, “Everyone was on point.” He will hope for more of the same from his team back home.

The Canucks are coming off quite a Saturday night contest themselves after facing the league’s top team, the Boston Bruins. Top lines were matched up all night and fists flew between Zdeno Chara and Tyler Myers, and Charlie Coyle and Bo Horvat. The result was absolute domination by Vancouver, crushing Boston in a 9-3 victory. That’s fun to type. A 9-3 victory over the Bruins.
In the past few weeks, the Canucks have seen a major trade by acquiring Tyler Toffoli from the Los Angeles Kings for Tim Schaller, a second-round pick, and prospect Tyler Madden, and a potentially season-ending injury to Brock Boeser. Through it all they didn’t lose their focus and kept their eye on staying in the playoff race. It didn’t take Toffoli long to get comfortable with his new team, contributing two goals to the 9-3 win. Over the Bruins.
Yesterday was the NHL Trade Deadline and the Canadiens said goodbye to Ilya Kovalchuk, Nate Thompson, and Nick Cousins in return for more draft picks. Thanks to the Thompson trade, Jake Evans got another call-up and will most likely be suiting up for this seventh NHL game tonight.
Vancouver’s star goaltender, Jacob Markstrom, missed Monday’s practice with a lower-body injury, which led to Jim Benning’s only trade of the day: a goalie swap with the New Jersey Devils, acquiring Louis Domingue in exchange for Zane McIntyre.
With 18 regular-season games left, Montreal is currently sitting just six points out of reach for third in the Atlantic Division and eight points out of the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. It’s a tempting gap to be sure, and one the remaining players will be hoping to close.
Last season, Montreal swept Vancouver. This will be the final time these two teams meet during the 2019-20 campaign. The first time was back on December 17 when the Canadiens came away with a 3-1 win. Could we see a season sweep once again?
