The Canadiens are currently the only team in the NHL without a loss. At 6-0-0, the Habs sit first in the NHL with 12 points, 2 points above the next ranked team which just so happens to be the team the Habs will be playing tonight.
The St. Louis Blues have been putting together an almost equally good start as the Canadiens, with only 1 loss in their 6 games played thus far coming at the hands of the Minnesota Wild in their second game of the season. With T.J. Oshie now a Washington Capital, the Blues have seen an explosion of offense from Vladimir Tarasenko, who as one of their top players last season allowed the loss of Oshie to not be fatal, as Tarasenko already has 9 points in 6 games (5G, 4A) and leads the league in both points and goals. In fact, Tarasenko has at least 1 point in each of the 6 games he’s played this season.
On the other side of the ice, the Canadiens will rely on their balanced attack and timely Carey Price saves to give them their 7th win in a row, and their 3rd history-making win to start the season as the Canadiens continued to expand it’s team record for wins-in-a-row to start a season by beating the Red Wings Saturday night. The Canadiens identity is very similar to the Blues in that they both rely on sound defensive structures as their key strength, however, where the Canadiens are diverging this year is their ability to score consistently throughout the lineup. Of the 18 players who have dressed for the Habs this season, only 7 have not scored a goal (compared with the Blues who have dressed 21 players over their 6 games and have 10 players listed on their active roster who have yet to score a goal).
The puck drops at 7:30PM EDT.
