The Canadiens passed the toughest test on the current road trip when they beat the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, coming back late to get an overtime victory in their second game in 24 hours. The western voyage is already a success, but there’s still more work to be done to end it off.

The final opponent will be the Dallas Stars, who are keeping pace with the teams ahead of them in the Western Conference. Things are already beginning to separate in the wild-card race, with a handful of teams dropping out early and the Stars bringing up the rear of those remaining in contention. Consecutive victories have them as the team in the best current form of the group, and they’ll be eager to keep that going tonight.

They can thank Roope Hintz for their win last night, as the young centre scored both goals in a game the Stars were outshot 39-29. Montreal will hope all that time spent in their own zone will have taken a toll on the defence, leaving them weakened for tonight’s game.

Montreal’s four-line attack could take advantage of such a situation, while Carey Price will be called upon to turn aside the chances Hintz and company get in front of him. If both of those things happen, a fourth consecutive victory could very well be on the table for the Canadiens.
