As part of the evaluation process for NHL teams, they’ve been holding informal tournaments between rival clubs in recent years. This year, some of the best prospects in the Habs system will be proving how they measure up to those in the Senators systems, as two of the league’s top prospect pipelines go toe-to-toe.
The Senators haven’t been a strong team in the NHL for several years, but that is helping them draft high each off-season and really fill the prospect pool with talent. Montreal, meanwhile, has been carefully selecting a lot of high-ceiling players despite some lower slots in the draft order, with defence being the stongest position showcased today. The Habs will run a pairing of Kaiden Guhle and Mattias Norlinder this afternoon, comprised of two players with hopes of being on the Canadiens’ opening night roster in a few weeks’ time.
