Canadiens announce 58-player roster for the main training camp.

The Montreal Canadiens have announced their full training camp roster as they switch attention from the organizational prospects to the players that will compete for spots in the three professional teams affiliated with the organization: Montreal Canadiens (NHL), St. John’s IceCaps (AHL), and the Brampton Beast (ECHL).

Looking back quickly at the rookie camp roster, the following players were already cut this past week at the conclusion of the rookie tournament:

  • Dryden Hunt (WHL- Medicine Hat)
  • Sam Studnicka (OHL- Ottawa 67’s)
  • Daniel Audette (LHJMQ- Pheonix de Sherbrooke)
  • Simon Bourque (LHJMQ- OcĂ©anic de Rimouski)
  • Jeremiah Addison (OHL- Ottawa 67’s)

Hunt and Studnicka were tryouts who failed to impress enough to remain on the training camp roster, and the rest were returned to their respective CHL teams for the beginning of the season. This is probably a smart move given that they had no real chance of making the Habs out of camp.

The only Junior eligible player who remains with the training camp roster is Noah Juulsen, who is currently injured. It would have been interesting to see whether he would have been cut with the rest of the juniors, or whether the Habs brass would have kept him around for longer for a thorough evaluation. Regardless, he is still around, but not skating.

The following players are participating on a tryout basis:

Notable Injuries

Max Pacioretty: He injured his knee training during the offseason, and despite his mutant healing powers, he remains questionable for the start of the regular season.

Noah Juulsen: Is still recovering from a concussion he suffered towards the end of August and is following the concussion protocol. The Habs will take his time with him to ensure that the recovery is complete before they consider testing him.

Connor Crisp: Sustained an injury during the game against Toronto and only played one more shift afterwards. Was a scratch the following night against the Senators.

Mark MacMillan: No details were released on the nature of his injury.

Markus Eisenschmid: Bad timing for an injury for the tryout who shone at the development camp during the summer. No details were released on the nature of his injury.

Charles Hudon and Josiah Didier left practice today with undisclosed injuries as well.

Didier was hit in the numbers into the boards in the third period against the Leafs on Saturday and didn’t return, so it’s possible that this is the source of his injury.

Training camp officially gets underway tomorrow.
