In the US: NHL Network
Elsewhere: NHL.tv / NHL Live

Montreal fell into an 0-2 hole in their first game of the season on Thursday, but were able to respond with three goals in the second period to temporarily take the lead. They allowed a tying goal in the third, and were ultimately defeated in a shootout.

The Canadiens will want to avoid a similar start this evening. If the Toronto Maple Leafs net two goals early, there may be no shutting those floodgates. Tonight’s hosts have nine goals through two games and will be eager to add to that total.

A four-wave attack will be Montreal’s answer. The first game versus the Hurricanes saw the bottom two lines get on the scoresheet, so there’s plenty of offence to be had from all units. The team even managed a power-play goal, which is a good sign for the new season after how poorly they performance on the man advantage a year ago.

The same lineup Montreal iced on Thursday night will be in action this evening. Chemistry will be developing on all trios and pairings, which will be important if the Habs are to challenge one of the league’s top offences. The Leafs are playing their third game in the opening four days of the season, so a 60-minute effort could lead to a few breakdowns in the Canadiens’ favour.
