It’s disappointing to see the Montreal Canadiens’ season come to an end before all the games are even played, but that’s what happened with last night’s victory by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The good news is that the 2019-20 season essentially begins right now, and that comes with the first NHL game for Ryan Poehling tonight, on home ice, against the rival Toronto Maple Leafs.
Poehling is just one of the prospects in the system ready to try his hand at the top level, with others like Cale Fleury, Lukas Vejdemo, Josh Brook, and Nick Suzuki all primed to get proper looks at training camp in the fall.
The game is still worth two points in the standings, and Montreal will be wanting to send a message to their opponent that they’ll be a much improved club when they meet again in six months’ time. Despite the fact that they were just eliminated last night, expect a resilient group on home ice determined to see out the season the only way they know how.
