For our new readers and members, the Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and entertaining. Full recaps are up the morning after every game.
Pre-game thoughts:
- Excited to see what Jake Evans can do on the fourth line.
- Even more excited to see what Nick Suzuki can do on a first line.
- Less excited to see what Ben Chiarot will do with top pairing minutes.
- I’m fairly certain that I am the only Italian resident watching hockey tonight. Anyone care to bet against me?/
1st period:
- Suzuki shows off his cerebral skills early. It’s a good skill to have, being in the right area when chances occur.
- Kinkaid feels like a more stable back up than Antti Niemi. Quite the shocker!
- Has the coaching staff specifically told the youngsters to take unnecessary penalties? “Hey everyone, let’s practise our penalty kill against the weakest team in the league!”
- I guess not, considering Julien’s facial expressions./

- WOOOOAH! Keith. KINKAID!
- The offense is nowhere to be seen thus far. But at least KK looks to have improved in the faceoff circle./
2nd period:
- Formenton and KK have an internal competition for most time in the penalty box.
- What? Did we just? Noo. Could it really be? A power play goal? For Montréal? Noo. Must be hallucinations from the espresso.
- That was the first PP-goal of the Habs pre-season. On the ninth try. You know how the old jungle expression goes: “Once in a blue moon Montreal scores on the man advantage.”
- I am getting quite enamored by Cale Fleury and I don’t think I’m the only one. Leskinen ain’t too shabby either, for that matter.
- That was just mean by Anderson. Let Suzuki score! Give the people what they came for.
- The offence has clearly picked up now in the second period. Not getting any penalties has surely helped.
- Wonderful! Anderson does what is now known as a Primeau and Evans has his second of the preseason.
- Hudon. Still close but no cigar./
3rd period:
- Tomas Tatarrrrrrr! Powerrrrrrr play scorrrrrre numberrrrr two for the night. Tremendous hockey intelligence by Suzuki to screen the goalie.
- Tkachuk is one of those players you love if he’s on your team. An annoyance on two legs. Love seeing Evans’s fighting spirit to stand up for Kinkaid though.
- Ok, so what is going on? This is getting out of hand. I can’t handle this much excitement from the power play.
- One could say that Senators PP is quite tame. One could also choose to say that Habs PK is making them look bad. I choose the latter. I am a positive person.
- I mean, it is Ottawa, but this really looks quite solid. On both ends.
- Shutout for Kinkaid. He looks considerably better than last year. Could turn out to be a steal.
- Was this the game where everything changed? Do the Habs finally have a functioning power play? To be continued…/
