Canadiens 1 of 2 Canadian teams to get NBC national games in 2014-15

A full month after the NHL released the regular season schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 season, NBC has finally released their national broadcasting schedule, which you can view in its entirety on Awful Announcing.

Five of the seven Canadian teams won’t have games on the American national network, which isn’t very surprising, but both the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs will have two. Neither Canadian franchise will be seen on the mothership channel of NBC, but the Habs will appear on NBCSN twice in ten days, against the New York Rangers on January 29th, 2015, and against the hated Boston Bruins on February 8th, 2015.

Both broadcasts will be away games for the Habs, which isn’t surprising, and while the Bruins game is also a national game in Canada, the Rangers game is not, which is somewhat surprising. Then again, the importance of the New York Rangers is far higher in the USA than it is in Canada.

This brings the total national broadcasts of Canadiens games in both Canada and the USA to 33: 32 in Canada, two in the USA, but one overlapping. As usual, the Habs are one of the marquee television markets in the the NHL.
