The Bulldogs have found a weird recipe for success. After outshooting the Saint John’s IceCaps 46-19 on Tuesday they realized their game plan of shooting more, and outplaying their opposition wasn’t working. Instead, they went to work on a new game plan, they started off the game with a season low 2 shots in the first, and were outshot 30-25 in the game, but they got the win.
Cedrick Desjardins got the call for the Dogs and turned aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced to secure his second win of the season. He’s a perfect 2-0 now, might as well keep him on the bench to secure his winning percentage.
Louis Leblanc made his return to the Bulldogs roster but was held off the scoresheet. He recorded 1 shot on net and finished the game at -1.
While the Bulldogs only mustered 2 shots in the first periods, both of which came off the stick of Bulldogs leading scorer Brendan Gallagher, the IceCaps recorded 8 shots on Desjardins. (Yes, there was a total of 10 shots in the period. Thrilling fun for all)
The Bulldogs, yet again gave up the first goal of the game. It has now been 13 consecutive games the Bulldogs have been scored on first. Carl Klingberg found the back of the net with 10 seconds left in the first period; former Hab, Ben Maxwell drew an assist on the play, with the secondary assist going to Paul Postma.
In the second the Bulldogs came out much stronger, firing 15 shots on Mark Dekanich. Brendan Gallagher helped tie the game by sending a perfect pass to Mike Blunden; Blunden’s tying goal was his third of the season.
The eventual game winner was scored right at the end of the second period, with 23 seconds left Morgan Ellis’ point shot went wide and ricocheted in front of the net, Steven Quailer converted it for his second of the season. Nathan Beaulieu picked up the second assist on the play.
With the win the Bulldogs break a two game losing streak. Their next action will come against the Lake Erie Monsters on Grey Cup Sunday. Game time is 4:00pm.
