Lots of chances in this game and it was easy to believe that the Hawks had this game well in hand with the quality of their chances, but somehow the Canadiens hung with them and now we have a hockey game that seems winnable for Montreal – rather than a Sisyphean task.
Gallagher fed a great Sergei Gonchar blast just before the midway point of the 2nd. Gonchar ended up with his first goal of the season and Montreal ended up with a tie game.
The PP remains, as always, a work in progress with the Habs giving up more solid chances on the PP than they are getting. Nothing like seeing the opposing team shorthanded and come sweeping in on a two on one. But Subban keeps the PP trending in the right ways, he launches a rocket on Raanta during a Kane penalty and Montreal has a 3-2 lead.
If you had been asked two weeks ago which upcoming opponent would give the Habs fits, it’d be Chicago, but somehow we have a 3-2 lead going into the third.
