2024 World Junior Hockey Championship schedule: December 31, 2023

Group A Preliminary Games

8:30 AM ET: Sweden vs Finland

The two rivals will go head to head as Sweden looks to lock in top spot in the group and a date with the loser of the Czechia-Switzerland game. They will be the heavy favourite against a Finland team that has struggled thus far in the tournament. Finland beat Latvia in their last game and has qualified for the quarterfinal. The only question is where they will finish in the group, with third or fourth a possibility. The game will be on TSN 4/5 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the US.

1:30 PM ET: Germany vs Canada

After an historic win against Finland, Germany may still be battling for relegation. A huge 6-2 loss to Latvia means that without a point against Canada, the Germans are eliminated and will face Norway in a one-game relegation showdown. Canada is facing a lot of question marks and will look to bounce back after a loss to Sweden. They will have to be prepared for a very desperate German team. The game will be on TSN 4/5 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the US.

Group B Preliminary Games

6:00 AM ET: Slovakia vs United States

After Slovakia’s opening day win against Czechia, it isn’t surprising that this game would determine the top two spots of the group. What is a surprise is that Slovakia currently has the upper hand after the United States needed a shootout to defeat Czechia, and are a point behind the Slovaks. The winner of this game will win the group and the loser will finish second. The question will become what that means as positioning in Group A is very much up for grabs. The game will be on TSN 1/3/5 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the US.

11:00 AM ET: Czechia vs Switzerland

Czechia had their best game of the tournament against the United States, but were unable to get the victory. Switzerland had a huge win against Norway which means that both teams have qualified for the quarterfinal. While the first game will determine the top two spots, this game will determine the order of the third and fourth spots. The game will be on TSN 3/5 and RDS Info in Canada and NHL Network in the US.

All games shown on TSN will be streamed on TSN+ in Canada, but it requires a subscription.
