Relegation Round
4:00 AM ET: Kazakhstan vs Germany
The best of three series gets underway to see who stays up in the top division. Germany likely would have finished higher had they been in Group A and should be considered heavy favourites to stay up in the top division. They have the high end talent that should keep them up. Kazakhstan has put up good fights, and will be looking to win the relegation series for the second straight year.
Quarter-finals
6:30 AM ET: Switzerland vs Russia
At the beginning of the tournament, if you saw this matchup you would assume that the Russian’s finished higher in their group. That is not the case. Switzerland defeated Finland to finish second in their group while the Russians lost to the United States and the Czech Republic and finished in third. Russia should still be considered the favourite but they have yet to win two consecutive games in this tournament. The game will be shown on TSN 3/4/5 and RDS2 in Canada and NHL Network in the United States.
9:00 AM ET: Canada vs Slovakia
After losing to Russia, Canada had doubters all over the place, but still finished top in their group and will get an easier path to the semi-final as a result. Slovakia is by far the worst team to make the quarter-final round, and will be in tough to send Canada packing in this round for the second straight year. To make matters worse for Slovakia, Alexis Lafreniere will be returning to the Canadian lineup. The game will be on TSN 1/3/4/5 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the United States.
11:30 AM ET: Finland vs United States
The two teams that met in the championship game last year are facing off in the quarter-final which means one of them will be bitterly disappointed with their result. The cyclical nature of the tournament makes this a normal occurrence but this should be a very hotly contested matchup. This game features two of the hottest duos in the tournament: Shane Pinto and Trevor Zegras of Team USA and Kristian Tanus and Patrik Puistola of Finland. The game will be on TSN3 (live), TSN 1/4/5 (in progress) and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the United States.
2:00 PM ET: Czech Republic vs Sweden
The hosts from the Czech Republic will have upset on their mind, but their roster has been decimated by injuries. Jan Jenik and Lukas Dostal missed the last round robin game against Canada and they are already without Jakub Lauko, who was injured in his first shift of the tournament. Sweden once again got through the tournament without losing a round robin game, but expectations will be high to get a medal that matches the three crowns on their jersey and that journey starts Thursday. The game will be on TSN 1/3/4/5 and RDS in Canada, NHL Network in the United States.
