14 Prospective Bulldogs Cut

As reported on twitter by JF Chaumont of le Journal de Montréal, the Hamilton Bulldogs made 14 cuts tonight:

Translated tweets below:

Stefan Chaput, Olivier Fortier, Ian Schultz, Joe Stejskal, Daultan Leveille, Spencer Bennett, Michel Ouellet, Brendan Ranford, Zack Torquato, Kyle Rank, Sebastien Owuya, Cody Wild, Scott Darling and Cody Reichar.

Chaput, Fortier, Schultz and Stejskal will report to the ECHL with the Wheeling Nailers, while Leveille will report to the San Francisco Bulls of the ECHL.

Players that are released from the team entirely are Ouellet, Bennett, Ranford, Torquato, Rank, Owuya, Wild, Darling and Reichard.

Bobby Farnham, Antoine Corbin and Etienne Boutet all remain with the team as of now.

The big surprise in not making the team is likely Ian Schultz, who seemed to take big steps forward last season with the Bulldogs.

Notes from the scrimmage

  • Brian Wilde noted that Aaron Palushaj was the recipient of several big body checks, many of them coming from young Nathan Beaulieu. We’re used to seeing Palushaj get knocked around a bit, so there might be questions about his hockey sense going forward in this critical season for him.
  • Steven Quailer has received solid reviews from media in attendance, as he uses his body well and has a lot of speed for his 6’4″ frame.
  • Brendan Gallagher and Michael Bournival were sparkplugs tonight, looking very good on a line with Quailer.
  • It was agreed by everyone that I could find who saw the scrimmage live that Louis Leblanc was the most dominant player in the group, which shouldn’t be a surprise.
  • The talent level of the Bulldogs this year as compared to last year is astronomically higher.
